Why Stories Matter: Introducing An Alchemist’s Journey Through Books & Writing

There’s a new theme running through Writer on the Road and it focuses on storytelling. In 2017, there will be more stories, more posts about stories, and more exploration of why stories matter. My podcast has a lot to answer for. It’s made me ask questions about what really matters. Encouraging our young people to develop their storytelling skills is high on my list – my online novel writing course for teens can be found here. Providing the tools for the rest of us to tell our stories comes a close second – my podcast can be found here. And third, there’s this blog, which I’ve neglected since I moved over to Writer on the Road. Why? New directions, I guess, but 2017 will see me move back into writing mode where I continue to push my own creative boundaries. The Miner’s Wife was my first literary attempt and I’ve been playing in the background with The Timber-cutter’s Daughter. It’s time to get serious and share my creative journey as I research, draft, edit and publish my second novel (it’s not really my second novel but it’s my second real novel). And finally, it’s time to share some of the things I’ve picked up as I’ve stubbornly lived a life of books, writing and self-absorbed bibliomania. 2017 will see me write and publish a non-fiction tome about my love of all things literature and it’s summed up in the new tagline for my podcast/website: An Alchemist’s Journey Through Books & Writing (more about this later). I hope you’ll join me on my journey as I gift to a new generation everything I’ve learned. It goes without saying that my own children are my love, my inspiration and my reason for being. Merry Christmas, everyone. Happy New Year. I look forward to 2017 and new beginnings…
