Teen Writers and Creativity: 10 Characteristics of a Teenage Novelist

Maia and Erin are Teen Story Slingers and they’re halfway through completing our Online Teen Story Slingers Novel Writing Course. Both students have nearly completed their first drafts after a month or so of solid work. We meet every week via Facebook Live to share ideas and hone up on any story writing techniques the girls may be curious about as they draft their stories. They’ve taken the feedback given and applied it to their writing. Every week we’ve watched the duo grow and thrive on their writing challenges.

We’ve learned as much as we’ve taught throughout the month. We’ve learnt that young writers are a delight to work with and if we have to choose the Top 10 characteristics of these girls it would would be a tough gig, but here goes…these girls are:

1. Curious

2. Imaginative

3. Creative

4. Entrepreneurial

5. Thoughtful

6. Crazy (in a good way)

7. Articulate

8. Inspirational (this one’s mine, it’s what these kids are to me)

9. Independent learners

10. Resourceful

If you know a teen who has any or all of the above qualities and you think they might enjoy joining us, you can find out more here. You can also download our FREE Voices in Your Head pdf here to get your young writer started on their writing journey.

Erin and Maia are on track to achieve a dream not many young people get to achieve and we look forward to you joining us on the inside.
